What is the Puerto Rico Hotel & Tourism Association?

The PRHTA is an island-wide trade association which represents, protects, promotes, educates and informs its more than 500 corporate members, who together directly and indirectly employ more than 45,000 men and women throughout Puerto Rico. As the voice of Puerto Rico's hotels, restaurants and all other segments of our island's tourism industry, we are committed to helping our members achieve their key business objectives.

Who are its members?

Members include hotels, restaurants, airlines, tour companies, cruise lines, educational institutions and suppliers of goods and services to Puerto Rico's tourism industry.

Where is it located?

The Association's offices are located at 165 Ponce de Leon Avenue, San Juan, Puerto Rico. PRHTA maintains an active presence throughout the Island by holding events in all areas where there is tourism activity. Members in the Southern, Western and Vieques/Culebra portions of the Island also hold regional meetings, and elect regional representatives to the Association's Board of Directors.

What are its goals?

  • To combine the talents and efforts of all our members, and channel them in order to improve the business environment for tourism in Puerto Rico.
  • To lobby the legislature and other government agencies to support laws which are favorable to our industry.
  • To increase the professionalism of our work force through education and training.
  • To strengthen our ability to promote the island as a premier tourism destination.
  • To seek new and better ways to offer services and benefits to our members.
  • To encourage active member participation in all sector-specific committees.
  • To work in close conjunction with the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau.

What are its values?

As an Association, we are committed to being:

How is it run?

PRHTA is a non-profit organization with a professional staff of nine, led by an President & CEO. The PRHTA president is elected by his or her peers in the Association for a two-year term. Our Board of Directors, which meets on a monthly basis, is composed of 28 members of the industry who serve as volunteers in guiding the Association.
